Breast Cancer Walks Are a Great Way to Show Your Support For Other People And to Get Supported
Some of the most popular ways to show support for breast cancer research and treatment are breast cancer walks. Organizations such as the Avon foundation offer breast cancer walks that lend support to women who can’t afford breast cancer care. They raise millions of dollars for breast cancer research and treatment.
Their motto is “In it to end it.”
One Avon Foundation walk is a two day walk celebrated throughout the United States. Different cities are chosen for a two-day 39 mile walk that raises money for breast cancer support. In the upcoming year, about ten cities or geographical areas will be chosen. The cities chosen differ from year to year.
The Avon Foundation walk is walked by breast cancer survivors and those who know people who have breast cancer. Breast cancer support groups get together to walk as a group. Women surviving breast cancer often wear pink on such walks. Pink is the designated color for breast cancer survivors.

What The Avon Foundation Walks Do
Breast cancer walks like those of the Avon foundation support women with breast cancer. They help people to remember the plight of those with breast cancer. They help women who need breast cancer treatment but cannot afford it. Money goes to breast cancer research and treatment. This is why breast cancer research is so far ahead of other types of cancer. The walk memorializes those who have died of breast cancer.
Walks also remind women that good exercise, like walking, is a type of prevention against breast cancer. Long breast cancer walks are difficult but are healthy for the average walker who has practiced walking before the actual day of the breast cancer walk.
It reminds women that it only takes walking to prevent breast cancer. You don’t need heavy exercise in order to help you fight off breast cancer.
Walks are fun. Breast cancer supporters and survivors can meet each other. Friendships can be forged. People from all over the country can get to know one another. You might meet a lifelong friend on the walk—someone you may never have otherwise met.
The Susan G. Komen Walks
Another organization that supports breast cancer walks is the Susan G. Komen Walks for the Cure. The Susan G Komen Foundation sponsors many different walks. They offer a series of walks done on a Saturday or Sunday. They have one series of Walks done on Mother’s day to celebrate mothers with breast cancer.
On the day of the breast cancer walks, they do a 5k race for runners to support breast cancer. They have T shirts for all participants. They have a breast cancer walk for families that is shorter. They have a 5k walk for everyone to enjoy. There are booths that remind people about breast cancer research and treatment.
Many breast cancer support groups participate in both the booths and the walks. There are usually thousands of participants and millions of dollars are raised. Women surviving breast cancer wear pink hats to remind everyone of their struggle.
What The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walks Do
As mentioned, millions of dollars are raised for breast cancer. The focus is on finding a cure for breast cancer through breast cancer research and treatment. For those who want a more challenging walk, they offer a 3 day walk for women who want to put a lot of effort into fighting for the cure. The 3 day walk is extremely difficult but very rewarding. Many breast cancer support groups do this walk in order to support breast cancer research.
Other Breast Cancer Fundraisers
The breast cancer walks are perhaps the biggest fundraisers for breast cancer awareness. The American Cancer Society offers a walk called “Making Strides against Breast Cancer”. It is a walk that defines how well we are fighting this disease. It is a walk to celebrate the work already being done to get rid of breast cancer. This breast cancer walk has just started since 2009. Its goal is to educate women about breast cancer prevention.
The National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. helps people who want to raise funds for breast cancer. Fundraisers can include things like dinners for breast cancer, events for breast cancer and shows for breast cancer.
Like breast cancer walks, such fundraisers raise money for breast cancer research and treatment. Some help women surviving breast cancer. Others help raise money for prevention of breast cancer. This money can be used to subsidize breast cancer mammograms for those who have no or little health insurance to pay for them.
